Dr. Lusanda Bomela

Dr. Bomela is South Africas first female AO Spine Fellowship trained surgeon and a pioneering voice at the intersection of medicine and technology. She is one of only a handful of female orthopaedic surgeons in South Africa, where women represent less than 5% of the specialty. Her work spans cutting-edge surgical techniques and emerging technologies in spine care, including her practice at the Modderfontein Orthopaedic Institute—the first facility in Africa to offer robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery.Beyond her clinical excellence, Dr. Bomela is a distinguished academic at the University of Pretoria, where she serves as supervisor, lecturer, and examiner for both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate orthopaedic registrars.
