Donovan Waller is a seasoned engineering and technology leader with over 30 years of experience driving innovation, sustainability, and operational transformation in the mining and industrial sectors. He joined Maaden in July 2025, bringing extensive expertise in integrating advanced technologies with responsible mining practices. Waller holds a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Engineering Management) and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Aeronautical), both from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. His career spans roles in experimental aerodynamics at CSIR, management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM, and technical systems implementation as an independent consultant and with Anglo American.During his tenure at Anglo American, Waller served as Group Head of Technology Development, where he pioneered the Future Smart Mining framework—an industry-first initiative that integrated cutting-edge technologies with sustainable practices to deliver economic, environmental, and social benefits. He led the development of a robust innovation pipeline that included breakthrough solutions such as SandLix leaching technology, large-scale carbon sequestration, hydrogen-powered mining trucks, and autonomous mining systems. Previously, as Head of Automation & Remote-Control Technology Development at Anglo American, he developed global strategies for automation and robotics in mining operations.
