Basil is an experienced company builder who works with founders to create disruptive companies with an enterprise technology focus in MENA. Prior to launching the new Key Capital, Secondary VC to help support founders with options to manage their investors and cap tables, while offering sophisticated investors unique access to mature, high-potential ventures, Basil was a General Partner with Nclude, Largest Fintech Focused VC fund in Africa and later with Global Ventures for both fund 1 and fund 2, investing in early-stage startups across Africa and the Middle East.
Earlier in his career, Basil was a founder member of the Reuters Venture Capital group, investing in leading global companies including Netscape, Yahoo!, and Webex. Basil then managed emerging markets for Reuters: A $600M business spanning Latin
America, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, India and China. In a later role, Basil served
as President of the Intellectual Property and Science business and a member of the
Senior Executive Committee at Thomson Reuters. He was responsible for developing
the strategic proposition of the $1billion revenue business. Upon strategic execution, he prepared the division for sale to private equity which took place in 2016 for $3.55B.
Basil is an advisor, investor and board member at numerous global technology
companies. He holds a bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Basil led investments in Paymob, MamoPay, Tabby, Zid, Khazna, and many other
fintech investments.
