Welcome to the Human Data Economy

The AI economy has priced its compute. It has not yet priced its most important input: you. The models that will predict disease, personalize treatment, and extend healthspan are only as good as the human data they learn from, and the data that matters most — longitudinal, real-world, and rich with context — cannot be manufactured or scraped. It can only be acquired one way at scale: with consent, from the person it came from. Mark Gorski, founder of Sports Data Labs and adjunct professor of law at Case Western Reserve, has spent a decade building the consent infrastructure that lets the world's most measured humans — professional athletes — govern, license, and be paid for their biological data. He argues that chips are the picks and shovels of the AI era, and that the next great asset class is people themselves: a Human Data Economy in which individuals are shareholders in the intelligence built from their bodies, and in which nations building health systems today can make consent, governance, and value return the default rather than the retrofit.
