As AI moves from the lab into everyday life across the region and world, the question is no longer whether to build, but how we build responsibly, safely, and inclusively. This session unpacks Meta's approach to embedding safety, privacy, and transparency by design, from the policies and processes that guide our model development to those that govern its output, applications and uses across products and platforms. At its heart is the balance defining this moment: democratising access to AI research and development so anyone can build, discover and lead, while putting the guardrails in place to protect people from material harms, because openness and safety are not opposing forces, and any credible approach to AI has to deliver both.
