Global Partnership on AI (GPAI)
Global expert in bridging artificial intelligence, data, law, and policy. I help organizations unlock AI and emerging tech benefits and manage risks in an increasingly complex, regulated, and litigious world. A lawyer and electrical engineer, I have innovated at technology's forefront for decades. A member of the OECD and GPAI AI Expert groups, I work on AI governance, data scraping, AI open source, AI contracting, intellectual property, privacy, and other challenging matters critical to safely unlocking responsible innovation and managing risks. I understand the quickly evolving global AI legal and policy landscape, emerging market practices, and technology. Before joining Duke's faculty, I was a partner at Covington & Burling and led its global and multi-disciplinary AI Initiative, In addition to my AI leadership, I am a seasoned corporate, IP, and government affairs lawyer and am admitted to practice before the USPTO. I frequently speak at leading institutions, such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the OECD, COP-27, GPAI, WIPO, the Federal Judicial Center, the National Judicial College, at the Singapore Embassy (with the Singapore Ambassador to the US), and at universities and government institutions. I currently serve on CEIMIA's Board and chaired the Strategy Committee of Duke's Engineering School Board of Visitors (BOV) before taking a leave from the BOV to join the faculty.
