Dr. Othmar Karas

Othmar Karas was First Vice-President of the European Parliament from 2022 to 2024, where he has held various positions since 1999. Since October 2020, he has been Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Taxation (FISC). In the 9th legislative term he was a member of various committees, including the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO). As EPP coordinator, he served on the Special Committee on the Financial, Economic and Social Crisis (CRIS) and was the EPP's economic spokesperson from 2002 to 2004. Previously, he was a member of the Austrian National Council, President of the SME Intergroup and Head of the ÖVP Delegation.
